I started Spahn’s Carpet Cleaning when I was 16 years old with $10,000 I had saved.
Originally, I was going to use the money to buy my first motorcycle. My dad suggested I consider investing it or starting a business. I researched what it would take to start a business, and soon discovered a corporation that made it easy to start a carpet shampoo company.
The business really took off about two months after I bought my first carpet cleaning machine. I was a junior at East High working at Hy-Vee as a cook and Scheels as a cashier and I did the carpet cleaning after 4 p.m. on my free weeknights. After four months, I earned $10,000 and was able to pay myself back.
After about a year of juggling school, two jobs and my own company, I quit one of the jobs and hired friends from East to help me grow my carpet cleaning business.
I sold my old Mazda and purchased a Ford F150 to haul all my cleaning equipment. My school schedule changed my senior year, and some days, I would shampoo carpets all day long. And my business kept growing. In November 2013, I upgraded to a 2009 F150 with cash I had saved up.
In September of 2014 I bought another business from a retiree that did Commercial and Residential Cleaning, Painting and Shampoo work. We took on the Painting and Cleaning projects from the previous owner, which helped us grow even more. A month later I quit my second job to focus solely on building Spahn’s.
I took on three employees, and changed the name from Spahn’s Carpet Cleaning to Spahn’s Cleaning LLC. We now do work for almost every apartment complex in Siouxland, and several in South Sioux City, two in Norfolk Nebraska, and one in Sioux Falls. We plan to expand to new areas soon.
Spahn’s is excited to be a growing and reputable business in the Siouxland area, and we look forward to serving the community for many years to come.
